Spike nabs “Star Wars” sextilogy for $70m

Viacom’s Spike TV cable channel has inked a deal with 20th Century Fox for an exclusive 6-year run all all six Star Wars films starting in April 2008. The network will be the first non-pay TV outlet to get to air Revenge of the Sith.

By paying up to $70 million, Spike outbid the Sci Fi, USA, TBS and TNT channels. This is also the biggest purchase for programming in Spike’s history. Although, back when Spike was called TNN, it payed $364 million for exclusive rights to Star Trek:TNG, Star Trek:DS9 and Star Trek: Voyager.
